Spring is in the Air, and Summer is around the Corner

Summer Challenge

It’s that time of the year when we start thinking about SUMMER! Every year, Oberon holds the OMS Summer Challenge for students in partnership with JCPL’s Summer Reading Program. This year, we’ve changed some of the OMS Challenges and JCPL is having a Summer Challenge as well. So, you should check out the information for both and participate in both. You will earn prizes for both challenges at the same time.

JCPL Summer Challenge

Open June 1st-July31st. Registration opens May 1st.

  • Participants will complete reading and activities as part of the challenge.
  • Participants will earn prizes.
  • The Library Summer Challenge is for ALL ages. Kids, Teens, and Adults can all participate, so it can be a whole family activity.
  • It helps others: JCPL partnered with JeffcoEats to ensure that all Jeffco kids and families have food this summer. The more Summer Challenge Participants, the bigger the JeffcoEats rewards.
  • By participating, you are helping Oberon. The middle school with the highest participation will win $800 for the school library.
  • Remember, Oberon Vikings won the School Contest last summer, let’s aim to win again!
  • 8th Graders- You will need to check with your high school because many of them require summer reading and it's the first assignment you have when you start 9th grade!

OMS Summer Challenge

Open June 1st- August 24th. No registration, you just need to complete the online form. Online Forms are due by August 24th.

Leave a Legacy

As we finish up the Leaving a Legacy topic in 7 Mindsets as well as conclude our Day Without Hate week, it’s helpful to reflect on how our actions can impact others.  The easiest and quickest way to feel better and become happier is to help someone else. Similarly, the best way to bring more good things into our lives is to start giving. In order to start or expand the flow of abundance in our lives, we must simply start making a difference every day in every little way that we can.

You Are Beautiful

After watching these videos, you can see how small acts of kindness can make a huge difference to the recipient of your act. Discuss with your family and discover topics for which you are passionate. Determine how you can make a difference by giving to others in those areas. Think of ways you can make a difference for your neighbors and family. Think about creating some unique "You are Beautiful" stickers and get ideas from their website.  We’ve seen during the Day Without Hate presentation how important it is to be kind to others, encourage acceptance, and reinforce safety in our school and community.
